In an effort to expand employment and portfolio development opportunities for artists, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Art in Public Places seeks to create a pool of artists to engage for restoration projects of public artworks. Bringing knowledge and expertise of mediums, processes and fabrication techniques, it is envisioned that artists can assist Art in Public Places with the conservation responsibilities of the Art in Public Places collection. Selected artists will engage with experts, commission artists and/or their estates, fabricators, conservation consultants, and Miami-Dade County departments to oversee and manage repair and maintenance of public art in a variety of mediums.  All work will meet liability requirements and professional standards of conservation of artwork. Successful candidates will have expertise and familiarity with fabrication, conservation, design, industrial processes, and contract management.  It is envisioned that this opportunity will be presented to artists on regular basis.

Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places (APP) sets aside 15% of the 1.5% generated by all new public art funding for the long-term care of its public art collection. During the implementation process, new public art commissions and acquisitions are subject to a rigorous conservation assessment to guarantee the artwork can be properly maintained over its lifespan. These funds are replenished on an ongoing basis with proceeds from new commissions.
